About

She is a graduate of Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) from the Kerala Agricultural University, College of Fisheries, Panangad and she took her postgraduate degree in Fishery Microbiology from the Dept. of Fishery Microbiology, College of Fisheries, Mangalore as an ICAR-JRF. She secured her PhD in Fishery Microbiology from Karnataka Veterinary and Animal Sciences University under the Indo- Australian strategic research scheme and proceeded to James Cook University Australia. She started her career as an Assistant Professor in Microbiology on contract in Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean studies in 2012 and has been permanently appointed as Assistant Professor in Microbiology in the Dept. of Fish Processing Technology, KUFOS in 2015. She has got 7 international and 2 national publications in peer reviewed journals and 18 Genbank submissions in which two complete genome sequences of two parvoviruses are included and has 4931 sequence submission in the Expression Sequence Tag (EST) database. So far her research and teaching experience has introduced her to a various research aspects in the field of conventional and molecular biology techniques like fish and shrimp disease diagnosis, Development of diagnostic techniques and antiviral strategy, Bacteriophage therapy for fish disease control and microbial spoilage of fish, Microbiological quality evaluation of Seafood, application of molecular techniques in Aquatic food quality analysis, Bioinformatic etc. She has been served as resource person in several international conferences organized by UNESCO-MIRCEN, College of Fisheries Mangalore and KUFOS and presented several research papers. One doctoral thesis has been successfully completed under her guidance and four others are pursuing for PhD under her guidance. Till today total 9 M.F.Sc and 2 MSc thesis has been successfully completed under her guidance and supervision. Currently she is the Principal Investigator of the project entitled “Development of multiplex PCR for the detection of virulent factors in Enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) from seafood under the plan scheme, CEFPT. She also served as the Co- PI of NFDP sponsored project entitles “National Surveillance Programme For Aquatic Animal Diseases” and served as a resource person in several training programmes organized under the project for the fish and shrimp farmers of Kerala and Fisheries Department officials. She is also engaged to deliver classes for fish farmers on various aspects in aquaculture like health management, Disease diagnosis, use of probiotics in aquaculture etc. Currently she is handling classes for the BFSc, MFSc and PhD programmes – both theory and practicals.
