Dinesh, Head of the Department, Aquaculture, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), Panangad P.O., Cochin-682 506, Kerala, India is a Fellow of World Aquaculture Society and is the second Indian scientist to receive this prestigious fellowship after Late Prof. (Dr.) M.C. Nandeesha in 2012. He was born in 1971 in Kunnappilly, a small village of Trichur District in Kerala. Dr. Dinesh has a professional career of more than 20 years in various institutions including teaching experience of 16 years in College of Fisheries under Kerala Agricultural University and KUFOS. He completed his Bachelor of Fisheries (BFSc.) and Masters Degree (MFSc.) in Aquaculture from College of Fisheries, Panangad, Cochin, India and PhD from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala. Dr. Dinesh joined as an Assistant Professor in Aquaculture in the College of Fisheries, Panangad on 20th June 2002. He served as the Head of Fisheries Station, Puduveypu which is the field level research centre of KUFOS for more than five years (2011 to 2017) during which he got involved in brackishwater aqua-farming and mangrove based aquaculture research. There are more than 50 publications of various sorts to his credit including 18 journal papers, 3 books and many popular articles. He has been associated with the Fishermen community, Scheduled Tribes, Aquaculture farmers and the public for their upliftment through various Governmental projects. Dr. Dinesh has been an integral part of many research and social projects, worth more than INR 65 million, in the capacity of Principal Investigator or Co- Investigator. Having been visited 13 countries on various missions; he networked and made strong academic ties with many Universities and research organizations. He was the recipient of the prestigious NUFFIC Training Fellowship from the Government of Netherlands in 2008, NSC Training Fellowship from Government of Taiwan, ROC in 2013 and 2016, Young Faculty Award from Kerala Agricultural University and more than six certificates of appreciation - both from national and global organizations. He was instrumental in implementing the first Litopenaeus vannamei farming research project and Vannameii hatchery in the State of Kerala implemented by KUFOS and funded by Government Kerala. He has published a collection of Malayalam poetries named “Poompattachirakile Alekhanangal” (meaning: scripts on the wings of butterflies) recently.
