About

I took my postgraduate degree in Hydrochemistry from the Department of Chemical Oceanography, School of Marine Sciences , CUSAT (1998). I did one year Research Associate-ship at Spices Board, Kochi and later on obtained my Ph.D in Environmental Chemistry from the Department of Chemical Oceanography, CUSAT (2002). After that I worked as a Contract lecturer in the Chemistry Department of of Maharaja's College, Ernakulam for one year (2003-2004) and later on as UGC Research Associate in the Department of Chemical Oceanography, CUSAT, for one year (2004-2005). In 2005 March, I joined as an Assistant Professor (Permanent) in the Department of Chemistry, St.Teresa's College, Ernakulam and continued till 2015. In May, 2015, I moved into Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Oceanography in the Aquatic Environment Management Department of KUFOS. I have received DST (Department of Science and Technology)Women Scientist Fellowship in 2006 (Project mode) and DST Fast Track scheme for Young Scientists in 2012 . I have also received Commonwealth fellowship in 2012 and worked under Prof Eric Achterberg in the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK. I have participated in Indian Arctic Expedition thrice (2014, 2016 and 2017). Presently am also serving as the Nodal officer of KUFOS-INCOIS centre at KUFOS. In KUFOS, Two doctoral theses have been completed under my guidance and several others are pursuing for PhD under my guidance. I have authored 7 books for the C.B.C.S.S programmes of MG University and Kannur University. My research interests are in the fields of bio-geochemistry of Coral reefs, mangroves and coastal Oceans. Presently my main focus in on trace metal bio-geochemistry, nutrients cycling and signalling anthropogenic perturbations in marine systems using sedimentary organic compounds. In addition to this , PhD programmes are ongoing as part of my expeditions to Arctic where our main focus in on the characterization of some important sedimentary organic compounds. In addition to these, I have completed a thesis focusing on the multilevel applications of bio-fabricated nano materials from marine sources. Three post doctoral fellows are also working under me supported by KSCSTE, Kerala. Also my lab has successfully guided around 50 M.Sc dissertations during the past 4 years. Also , I am guiding summer internships from different institutes all over India. I am also serving as the Principal Investigator of the Soil and Water Analysis lab of KUFOS, In KUFOS I am handling classes for the BFSc and MFSc programmes - both theory and practicals

Subject

Research Interests : Chemical Oceanography/Marine Chemistry. Bio-fabrication of marine nanoparticles from multiple sources and their applications. Trace metal bio-geochemistry of coral reefs, mangroves and coastal Oceans. Sedimentary organic compounds from polar regions. As a faculty of Kufos I am handling classes for the BFSc and MFSc programmes , Papers offered Soil and Water Chemistry (BFSc) Chemical Interactions in the Aquatic Environment (MFSc) Analytical techniques in Environmental Sciences (MFSc)
