About

Dr. S. Suresh Kumar is presently working as Professor of Biological Oceanography and Director of School of Ocean Science and Technology of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Cochin, India. He obtained Masters and Doctoral Degree in Marine Biology from Cochin University of Science and Technology and having more than 25 years of experience in aquatic research. The primary objective of his research is aimed at understanding the factors that naturally influence the primary productivity, ocean processes of coastal sea and biodiversity of the West Coast of India. The variation in primary productivity with respect to the changing climatic patterns persistent in the region is the focus of research. Further attempts are ongoing to understand the nutrient fluxes, consumer community structure and physico-chemical factors that contribute to the productivity in this region of upwelling. The diversity, habitat selectivity and interaction of reef community in the coral reef systems of the Lakshadweep archipelago are another area of his interest. His work also spans to inland coastal ecosystems, including studies on the diversity of microalgae, aquatic macrophyte, periphytic organisms, fishes and their interactions.
