The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), established in 2010, carries a rich legacy in the field of Food Processing Technology, rooted in the establishment of the College of Fisheries, Panangad, under Kerala Agricultural University in 1979. Over the decades, KUFOS has evolved into a premier institution, generating professionals skilled in fisheries sciences, with a specific focus on advancing fish and food processing technologies.
Strategically located near the Aroor Seafood Industrial Belt, the largest hub of seafood processing firms in India, KUFOS plays a pivotal role in addressing the industry’s needs. This proximity enables the university to act as a bridge between academia and industry, offering professional expertise and innovative solutions. Despite the region’s prominence in seafood production, the lack of dedicated research and development organizations has underscored the necessity for KUFOS to lead initiatives in research, industrial collaboration, and professional training in food processing technology.
By prioritizing research and development, fostering startups, and offering specialized training, KUFOS remains committed to driving innovation in food processing technology. Its contributions not only strengthen Kerala’s seafood industry but also set global benchmarks in sustainable practices, product development, and food safety research.
