Faculty of Fisheries Management (FFM)

The Faculty of Fisheries Management (FFM), formerly known as the School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME), was established in 2011 following the inception of KUFOS. The school initiated its academic journey in 2012 with the launch of the MBA program and later expanded to include M.Sc. (Statistics) and LL.M. (Maritime Law) postgraduate programs in the 2012-13 academic years. In 2021, the School was renamed as the Faculty of Fisheries Management (FFM) through an ordinance.

FFM is dedicated to fostering excellence in teaching, research, and extension services. Its academic offerings include a wide range of programs such as MBA (General Management), M.Sc. (Statistics) and LL.M. (Maritime Law) and Ph.D. in Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics and Maritime Law.
The faculty’s focus areas span business management, marketing, finance, human resources, trade, economics, cooperative management, maritime and fisheries law, statistics, entrepreneurship development, and information technology. To support these diverse areas of study, FFM operates through three functional departments:

  • i) Department of Business Administration and Management
The Department of Business Administration and Management was established in 2012, launching its MBA program (Dual Specialization) during the 2012-13 academic year. This four-semester postgraduate program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for leadership and managerial roles, as well as to inspire entrepreneurial spirit in an ever-evolving business environment. The curriculum emphasizes practical knowledge, preparing students to navigate advanced technologies and multicultural business settings. MBA is offered in dual specialisation with equal weightage in the areas of Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management.
The MBA program incorporates real-world learning through case studies, industry interactions, and field visits, providing a strong foundation for aspiring managers and entrepreneurs. This hands-on approach makes the program a valuable asset for students aiming to advance their careers in various industries, meeting the expectations of the business world.

  • ii) Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics offers a Postgraduate Program in M.Sc. (Statistics), with an intake capacity of 14 students per year. Notably, 20% of the seats are reserved for candidates from the fisher folk community. Currently, two batches of the M.Sc. (Statistics) program are in progress, providing specialized training and statistical expertise to meet the growing demand for data-driven decision-making in various sectors.

  • iii) Department of Legal Studies

The Department of Legal Studies offers a postgraduate program in LL.M. (Maritime Law), which was introduced in the 2013-14 academic year, with an intake of 16 students annually. Twenty percent of the seats are reserved for candidates from the fisher folk community. The department also offers a Ph.D. program, which commenced in the 2014-15 academic year.
