◈ KUFOS MAIN CAMPUS
KUFOS has excellent infrastructure to support the unique and different courses it offers in Fisheries Science and Ocean Science. It provides a wide range of facilities to the students to understand the course curriculum in effective manner. The KUFOS Head-quarters with its enchanting blue building stands in harmony with the greenery at Panangad, 12 km away from Kochi city, along NH-66.
◈ KUFOS FISHERIES STATION, PUDUVYPPU
Major research station of KUFOS is earmarked for mangrove research. Instructional farms comprising of various nursery and grow out ponds are the major attraction of the station. A mangrove reserve of 25 acres is maintained in the Puduvyppu campus.
◈ CLASS ROOMS
Separate UG and PG smart class rooms with modern teaching aids viz. interactive boards, LCD projector, overhead projector, etc. are available in all Departments.
◈ LABORATORIES AND CENTRAL INSTRUMENTATION FACILITY
Well-equipped laboratories in the University are used for practical learning as well as for carrying out research and development activities. The main laboratories include aquaculture lab, marine biology lab, molecular biology lab, hydrography lab, fishing technology lab, water and soil chemistry lab, biochemistry lab, microbiology lab, fish processing plant, food processing lab, food chemistry lab, biotechnology lab, computer lab, oceanography lab, etc. The Central Instrumentation Facility at Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies is located in the Academic block in the Eastern Campus, Panangad. This Facility has sophisticated instruments such as Gas Chromatography equipped with Mass Spectroscopy, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, Ultra Centrifuge, etc. All equipment is operated by trained technicians. Researchers and students outside KUFOS can make use of our Central Instrumentation Facility by paying the fee fixed by the University. To facilitate the use by outside students, an online booking platform has been implemented.
◈ STATE REFERRAL LABORATORY AND MOBILE AQUA CLINIC
Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Management Laboratory established with financial assistance from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, were upgraded to State Referral Laboratory that has facilities for level 1, 2 and 3 diagnoses. The officials of the Central and State Fisheries, farmers, students and researchers are trained in disease diagnosis. Regular awareness programmes are conducted. Research programmes aimed at the development of diagnostic methods, treatment protocols and management measures for aquatic animal diseases are also carried out in this lab.
◈ KUFOS MUSEUM AND AQUARIUM
The KUFOS Museum (named the AGK Menon Memorial Museum) which is located in the Western Campus of the University. Currently, the museum houses preserved specimens of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates. There are around 200 species of freshwater and brackish water fish species, 250 species of marine fishes, 25 species of crustaceans, 350 species of shells and 20 species of deep-sea fishes. A major highlight of the museum is the collection of native freshwater fishes of Western Ghats Biodiversity Hotspot including several rare and threatened species. The A.M. Michael Public Aquarium at KUFOS houses a diverse array of fish and shell fish species from both the freshwater and marine environments. There are 44 tanks arranged within two separate sections and additional two plasma tanks and a Koi Pond with two fountains. Currently, the aquarium maintains around 50 species of fish including native freshwater ornamental fishes, marine fish and invertebrates, exotic species and commercially important species for aquaculture. This aquarium draws an average of 3000 visitors annually.
◈ HATCHERIES
Well-equipped hatcheries are attached to Faculty of Fisheries Science. The list of hatcheries includes fresh-water prawn hatchery, ornamental fish hatchery, carp hatchery with jar and Chinese hatchery.
◈ INSTRUCTIONAL FARM FACILITY
Of the total land available, about 12.5 ha. (60 ponds) is used as instructional farm. 2.5 ha. water areas have been developed into a brackish water fish farm comprising of 20 ponds of different sizes. 5ha. area is presently utilized for prawn filtration.
◈ FARM OFFICE
Along with the University engineering wing farm office takes care of the maintenance of the physical infrastructure facilities in the campus. Hatcheries and farm facilities are also maintained by the farm office.
◈ TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES
The University provides bus service for students for to and fro movement from campus to various locations of the city, based on the necessity.
◈ SPORTS FACILITIES
The University provides excellent games and sports facilities and infrastructure. The University has a well-equipped gymnasium in the campus. A standard playground is available for the use of students. Other infrastructure facilities for sports and games include basketball courts, volleyball courts, shuttle badminton courts, table tennis boards and a full-fledged fitness centre. Athletics eight-line 400m synthetic track is proposed in the campus.
◈ SWIMMING POOL
The swimming pool (25 m length 10 m width) is sophisticated and equipped with tracks, starting blocks, all round deck slab, and spring board for diving. It also has separate changing rooms for boys and girls and an automatic water purification facility.
◈ KUFOS HOSTELS AND GUEST HOUSE FACILITY
The University provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls within the campus. Hostels are provided with all the amenities required for a healthy and calm stay away from home. The University also has a well-furnished guest house. Admission to hostels shall be based on distance as criteria. Students whose permanent residence is located at or more than 25 kms around Madavana are only eligible for admission to hostels. However, the differently abled students are exempted from this rule. There shall be no restriction or admission to hostels for these students. Allotment shall be made in the Ratio 50:50.ie,50% of vacancies for general category students and the other 50% shall be reserved as follows: SC 10% ST 2% OEC 10% CoF 20% Lakshadweep 3% PH 5% ICAR students from other states shall be given priority in the 50% of seats reserved for general category. Under each category, priority of admission shall be based on distance. The University provides furnished international hostel facility for the international students.

◈ KUFOS AMENITY CENTRE
The amenity centre is a common facility for public at Madavana junction, Panangad. It has facilities such as modern fish kiosk and special sales counter to sell live fish produced at the University and food products developed by the students. This is to encourage entrepreneurial initiatives and experiential learning programmes for students. The Department of Fish Processing Technology in association with the plan projects Model Fish Processing Plant and Training Centre (MFPTC) and Earn While You Learn (EWYL) has established “Model Fish and Fish Products Sales Outlet” at Amenity Centre, KUFOS. Model Fish & Fish Products Sales outlet has received License (B4-2174/2022-2023) from Kumbalam Grama Panchayat and Registration certificate (Registration Number: 21321186000232) from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The fish outlet ensures the sale of quality fishes and value-added fish products to its customers and continue its functioning in the upcoming years.
◈ AUDIO – VIDEO STUDIO FACILITY
The University has setup an audio-video and editing studio for sharing University activities and other relevant information to the key stakeholders of the University through mass media. The facility will be utilized for making audio and video tapes for education, research and extension purposes. Facility will be outsourced for professional videographers and film makers on payment.
◈ CANTEEN
The University has a canteen facility sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which provides food at a subsidised rate, managed by the Self-help Group “Kudambhashree” supported by the Government of Kerala.
◈ MEDICAL FACILITY
The medical facilities to maintain the proper health of staff and students is available in the University campus. The Medical Practitioner is available on Tuesday and Friday on every week from 01.30 to 5.30 pm. A qualified Counsellor is also available in the campus to help students and staff to maintain mental health and is available on every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 01.00 to 5.00 pm.
◈ ATAL INCUBATION CENTRE
The Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) KUFOS Kochi Foundation at Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies is a pioneering initiative established in alignment with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the fisheries and ocean studies domain. Our mission is to support and nurture start-ups that leverage cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to address challenges and opportunities in the marine sector. The objective is to empower aspiring entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into scalable businesses and facilitate the development and commercialization of products and services that enhance sustainability, productivity, and resilience in the fisheries and ocean studies sector.
The KUFOS Library and Information System (KUFOS-LIS) comprises a Central Library with an overall floor space of 774 m2 established in 2011, and libraries of 2 Faculties located on a different campus. University library is well-stocked and comprises of books, journals, reports, FAO publications, thesis, standard and personal rich collections given by renowned scientists in Fisheries Science. The University Library system has a collection of 22,198 books, 121 e-books, 4,000+ e-journals, 95 Indian journals, 810 DDM special collections of rare documents, 1,050 FAO publications on Fisheries, 1,200 bound volumes, 600 reports, 150 standards and specifications, 480 CD-ROM databases, and 9 national and regional newspapers. The University library provides facilities of lending of text books to the staff and students provides reference facility for students and researchers from outside and books for educational purpose are issued permanently to students every year at 50% concession rate. University library also provides online database search for Aquatic Biology, Aquaculture, Fishery Resources, Fish and Fisheries Worldwide and Food and Human Nutrition in AGRIS. Library has in-house database in KOHA Manupatra, Jgate, CeRA, Cambridge eBooks, DELNET and KUFOS Digital Library. Knimbus eLibray and mLibrary which provide one-point search and access to the subscribed and selected open access e-resources is also available in the library. It allows users to download content and save for offline reading. Users can access the above-mentioned databases and free online databases like KALNET, Krishikosh, eshodhsindh, NDL, CMFRI ePrints, Dyuthi, Shodganga, FAO etc. through this app. Currently more than 600 online journals are available through CeRA.

The University has a well-furnished computer lab funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The lab consists of many computers inter via Local Area Network (LAN). The Lab is also provided with fast broadband internet connection to access the global knowledgebase. The University provides high speed internet facilities to all students and faculty. The students can also utilize the Wi-Fi facility in the library and hostels.
