The Faculty of Ocean Science and Technology, established under the KUFOS Act 2010 by the Government of Kerala and formalized through the KUFOS First Statute 2013, is a centre of excellence for education, research, and extension in diverse fields. The faculty plays a pivotal role in addressing the scientific and technical challenges of ocean sciences, environmental studies, and food technology, fostering innovation and sustainability.
With a total of 11 postgraduate (M.Sc.) programs and a Postgraduate Diploma in Food Business Management, the Faculty provides comprehensive education across a broad spectrum of disciplines. These include areas such as applied geology, atmospheric science, biotechnology, disaster management, environmental science, food science and technology, marine biology, marine chemistry, microbiology, physical oceanography, and advanced technologies like remote sensing and GIS. This interdisciplinary approach equips students with the necessary expertise to tackle global challenges in ocean and environmental systems, as well as the food industry.
The faculty emphasizes practical learning and hands-on experience, offering extensive training opportunities in collaboration with renowned institutions like CMFRI, NIO, CIFT, INCOIS, and CIFNET. Students are exposed to real-world applications, including sampling and data analysis, climate change predictions, and advanced research methodologies. This practical exposure enhances their understanding of both theoretical concepts and their practical implications.
The modern infrastructure, including advanced laboratories and research facilities, provides students with a conducive environment for innovation and skill development.
